9-Day Canarian Cuisine and Wine
Starting at
Cuisine is a central hallmark of Tenerife’s culture. It is a marvelous fusion between the historic and the avant-garde; mainly Spanish with South American and Moroccan influences. Potatoes, ’mojos’ sauces, ’gofio’ (a toasted corn meal), cheese, fish, and honey are all local delights. This 9-day itinerary allows you to eat your way through both the northern and southern regions of Tenerife.
Arrive on Tenerife and meet your private driver, who will take you to Puerto de la Cruz. Located in the north of the island, this will be home base for the next four nights. Once you check into the hotel, the rest of the day and evening are yours to enjoy.
Today, you’ll head into town and meet your guide for a private walking tour. Puerto de La Cruz has many highlights, including the botanical gardens that were created in 1788 and contain one of the world's most unique collections of plants and trees from five continents. You will also have time to visit San Telmo, Plaza del Charco, the La Ranilla district, and Taoro Park, where the Taoro Casino is located. For lunch, you’ll sit down for a delicious meal and learn more about Canarian food and wine.
After breakfast, depart for your full-day, private tour. You’ll visit two vineyards: Bodegas Monje and Casa del Vino. Here you’ll have an opportunity to taste the wines and nibble on some delicious Canarian snacks and cheese.
Today is yours to enjoy however you wish! You may want to check out your hotel’s spa and gym, or perhaps spend the afternoon at Loro Parque. This is a world-class attraction that was originally intended to be a refuge for parrots. Today, the park houses an immense diversity of animal species, integrated amidst palm trees and other exotic plants. Its commitment to conservation and sustainability has made Loro Parque one of the most recognized zoos in the world, boasting over 44 million visitors since its gates first opened in 1972.
After breakfast, check out of your hotel and meet you guide. Prior to tourism, agriculture was the number one source of economic wealth for Tenerife. Bananas are still a top export for the island and today you’ll visit a working banana plantation to learn how this fascinating business works. The plantations themselves possess a lush beauty all their own. After, continue on to Costa Adeje and check-in to your 4-star beach hotel for the next four nights.
After breakfast, enjoy a leisurely day to yourself; relax on the beach or explore the town. This evening, you’ll visit Las Cañadas National Park, home to Mt. Teide. This park is characterized by its unique, lunar landscape and beautiful plant life. Declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2007, Mt. Teide is an iconic attraction and a must-see for visitors. Tonight, you'll experience why Tenerife is one of the best locations on the planet for stargazing; its clear skies, low light pollution, and high altitude will allow you to see the night sky like never before.
After breakfast, board the ferry for your visit to La Gomera, an island of hidden beauty. Explore the island in chauffeur-driven jeeps, enjoying the open air and panoramic views. During your day on the island, discover Garajonay National Park and the ancient rain forest, visit small and tranquil villages, sample traditional Gomeran cuisine for lunch, and learn about the fascinating whistling language that is found only on this island. You will also have time to explore San Sebastian, the island's capital city that was once visited by Christopher Columbus on his way to discover the new world. At the end of the day, board the ferry to return to Tenerife.
Enjoy your last full day in the Canary Islands. Lounge by the pool or soak up the sun on the beautiful, white-sand beach. Or walk the boardwalk and find a cafe for some people-watching.
After breakfast, your driver will pick you up at your hotel for your transfer to the airport. Safe travels!
