Puerto’s new summer carnival will be repeated after outstanding success

The first-ever Summer Carnival in Puerto de la Cruz proved such a success that thoughts are already turning to the second edition in 2017! More than 15,000 people gave their approval to this new event which was designed to showcase the main Carnival in February and to bring some September fun and entertainment to the coastal town. The verdict was the same for all the participants and the local council, with fiesta councillor Ruymán García declaring: “The victory belongs to everyone!”

The three days of festivities were held following repeated calls for a summer Carnival for several years and finally became a reality. Puerto’s Mayor, Lope Afonso said they were already working on next year’s event. “We analysed the good things and those where we need to improve but where we have no doubt is that we will be having many more editions of the summer carnival to come,” he promised. He admitted it had been a major challenge to organise this new carnival but paid tribute to the involvement of all the groups and how they had pulled together.

The hotel employers’ association Ashotel also pronounced the carnival a great success and said they wanted to see it repeated. The Summer Carnival also introduced actions for the awareness of recycling and respect for the environment.
