Needham, MA

The Tenerife Walking Festival (TWF) is already preparing its fifth edition, after the success of this year's edition, which concluded on Saturday in a great celebration in the European Square of Cross port. The event, which is expected to take place at the end of May 2019, has reaffirmed itself as one of the most outstanding hiking events in Europe. The TWF has had tours between the most spectacular natural environments of the Island and various attractive complementary activities for the local population such as conferences and workshops, in addition to its characteristic spirit of respect for the environment.

The insular councilor of Tourism, Alberto Bernabé, explains that the Walking Festival has "fulfilled the expectations, which corroborate the acknowledgments and positive comments of all the participants". The counselor, who appreciates the involvement of all entities and institutions that collaborate with the festival, highlights that the Tenerife Walking Festival has allowed participants to enjoy "both the extraordinary landscapes of the island and the traditions and local people”.

The festival just ran its fourth edition with the participation of almost 200 walkers of 14 nationalities (Germany, United Kingdom, Malaysia and Israel, among others) and had as a culmination the great end of the party on Saturday 26 in the Plaza de Europa in Puerto de the cross. The TWF consisted of tours of 20 trails that constitute a selection of the most striking of Tenerife.

Participants had the opportunity to enter such unique spaces as the rural parks of Teno or Anaga, or the Teide National Park, among others. The TWF has completed its commitment of 'zero footprint', offsetting the emission of CO2 and other greenhouse gases that originated the three editions of the event held so far. In this calculation, aspects such as the consumption of air conditioning, electricity, gas and paper, transport or hotel nights have been taken into account. With this type of actions, the environmental commitment of the Island in general and the Tenerife Walking Festival in particular is highlighted.

The Tenerife Walking Festival is organized by the Cabildo de Tenerife, through Turismo de Tenerife, with the collaboration of the ERA (European Hiking Association), the Environment Area of the Cabildo; the Fedme (Spanish Federation of Mountain Sports and Climbing); the Fecamon (Canarian Mountaineering Federation), the City Council of Puerto de la Cruz, the Rehabilitation Consortium of Puerto de la Cruz and the Santa Cruz Sostenible Foundation.
