Michelin Stars Make Tenerife the European Capital of Gastronomy

Needham, MA

The Island adds a new "brightness" to the five Michelin Star restaurants, and now Tenerife has a total of six Michelin Star restaurants.

The gastronomy of Tenerife continues to flourish nationally and internationally. The gala of the Michelin Guide Spain & Portugal 2018, held on November 21 at The Ritz-Carlton Abama in Guía de Isora, in the south of the island, hosted around 500 people. The event was a success and announced Tenerife as having a new Michelin star, which makes its restaurants add up to a total of six "glitters".

With its first star, the Nub restaurant in La Laguna was incorporated yesterday into the Michelin firmament on the island. This is where the two stars of Martin Berasategui's MB are still shining at the Ritz Carlton Abama hotel, the Kabuki hotel, and also at Abama, as well as those of the Kazan in Santa Cruz de Tenerife and El Rincón de Juan Carlos.

The awards were announced by the international director of the Michelin Guide, Michael Ellis, in a room that brought together the main chefs of our country, including Martin Berasategui, Pedro Subijana, Jordi Cruz, Carme Ruscalleda, Joan Roca, Dabiz Muñoz, Juan Mari Arzak, Quique Dacosta, Eneko Atxa, Paolo Casagrande or Ángel León, all of which were recognized with three Michelin stars at the gala.

"Our kitchen has reached unimaginable heights just a few years ago. In recent times, the progress we have experienced thanks to the joint effort of the public and private sector has been enormous on the island, and proof of this is both the celebration of such an important gala in Tenerife and the fact that our kitchen has been recognized with a new star, "says the president of the Island Council of Tenerife, Carlos Alonso.

The event has meant an enormous impact for Tenerife as a gastronomic destination as well as a recognition of the strength of its cuisine. In addition, it puts a finishing touch to a year in which the island has starred in other important events such as the Madrid Fusión event, the largest gastronomic event in Spain.
